We are sending you this Friday update in an effort to continue to keep you informed. We, like you, want our students back in school and we are ready for life to return to normal. It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge that neither of these is possible at this time.
Today the Sacramento County Office of Education announced that in consultation with local districts and the Sacramento County Public Health, all Sacramento County school districts are extending their closure through May 1, 2020. After careful deliberation the GCC concurred with this decision to slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep our staff, students and family’s safe.
We have made the decision to extend campus closures through May 1st. Pending further direction from the Governor or County Public Health, the GCC schools are now scheduled to re-open on Monday, May 4th.
We are incredibly proud of the work that our teachers, staff, and administrators have done to successfully connect with students and families and begin distance learning across the past two weeks. Your principals, site staff and teachers will continue to provide guidance, information and resources for you and your child in the days and weeks ahead. Schools are expanding their initial plans to include this additional time and may explore additional ways to meet your child’s needs. We thank you for all the ways that you are supporting your child’s education in this unusual time. Never doubt that we know it is hard and that you care greatly and are doing everything you can.
Please visit www.gcccharters.org for updated information and resources to support you, your family and your work at home.
We know you have questions. We have a long list as well. We will continue to work with local education and health officials and keep you updated as we have additional answers to share. In the meantime, please know that we are doing all that we can to make sure our students and families are supported during this difficult time through continued connections, and resources.
PS Please note that staff and students will continue to observe our scheduled Spring Break of April 6 – April 12.
