To GCC All Staff,
I want to first start this email off with an affirmation. Each of you on this email have “shined” in this time of unprecedented circumstances - you have risen to the occasion on behalf of our students and families and I couldn’t be more proud. Bumpy and challenging at times, yes, and yet you get up each day and do what must be done for our children – thank you!
Each Friday we try to provide an update as to what is known with the understanding that the situation continues to be volatile and fluid. With that goal in mind, the Sacramento County Office of Education today announced that in consultation with local districts and the Sacramento County Public Health that all Sacramento County school districts are extending their closure through May 1, 2020. It is with heavy hearts that the GCC concurred and has made the decision to extend campus closures through May 1st. Pending further direction from the Governor or County Public Health, the GCC schools are now scheduled to re-open on Monday, May 4th.
Again, I am beyond proud of the work that you have done to connect with all of our students and families and all the work that has been done to successfully implement distant learning for the past two weeks. We are all in this together - learning and stretching on behalf of the task at hand. I am very proud that in some ways the GCC is ahead of many school districts and schools both locally and throughout the state in implementing Distance Learning and it is because of your hard work, dedication and professionalism. Thank you!
We know you will continue to have questions. We have a long list of them ourselves. We will continue to work with local education and health officials and keep you updated as soon as we have additional answers to share. In the meantime, please know that we are doing all that we can to make sure our staff, students and families are supported during this difficult time through continued connections, and resources.
PS Please note that staff and students will continue to observe our scheduled Spring Break of April 6-April 12, 2020.
